The Construction Plans for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Sub-center of the World Meteorological Center (Beijing) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Technology Integration Innovation Platform Approved by the China Meteorological Administration

On May 19, 2021, the China Meteorological Administration officially approved the construction plans for the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Sub-center of the World Meteorological Center (Beijing) (hereinafter referred to as the "Greater Bay Area Sub-center") and the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Technology Integration Innovation Platform (hereinafter referred to as the "Innovation Platform"). This marks a significant step forward in the construction of the Greater Bay Area Sub-center and the Innovation Platform.

The construction of the Greater Bay Area Sub-center and the Innovation Platform is a concrete measure to deeply implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on the construction of the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It also follows the "Outline of the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan," the "Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Development Plan (2020-2035)," and the "Three-Year Action Plan (2021-2023) for Meteorological Development in the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong Section)" jointly formulated by the National Meteorological Center, the Meteorological Detection Center of the China Meteorological Administration, the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau, the Guangzhou Municipal Meteorological Bureau, and the Guangzhou Development District Management Committee.

In the future, the Greater Bay Area Sub-center will undertake the task of providing meteorological forecasting guidance products, technical exchanges, and training for countries and regions along the "Maritime Silk Road." It will focus on training high-level meteorological professionals for the Greater Bay Area, Portuguese-speaking countries, and countries along the Maritime Silk Road. The Innovation Platform will align with world-class standards, strengthen technological innovation, and build an open, collaborative meteorological innovation community. It will establish the Greater Bay Area Meteorological Intelligent Equipment Research Center (Guangzhou), promote the gathering of meteorological knowledge industries in the Greater Bay Area, and provide meteorological support for the national "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" initiative, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the support for Shenzhen in becoming a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
