On August 5, the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau held an expert evaluation meeting for the "Construction Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Sub-center of the World Meteorological Center (Beijing)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan") at the Guangzhou Municipal Meteorological Bureau. The meeting was chaired by Xiong Yali, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau. Liu Jinluan, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Guangzhou Municipal Meteorological Bureau, attended the meeting. Nine experts from various institutions, including the China Meteorological Administration, China Meteorological Science Institute, National Meteorological Center, National Climate Center, National Meteorological Information Center, Meteorological Observation Center of the China Meteorological Administration, Sun Yat-sen University, and the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the evaluation.
The expert group listened to a report on the compilation of the "Plan." After inquiries and discussions, the group concluded that the functional positioning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Sub-center of the World Meteorological Center (Beijing) is clear and aligns with the national goals of promoting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It also supports the World Meteorological Center (Beijing) in providing meteorological forecasting, guidance products, services, and technical training to countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road, helping the Greater Bay Area play a key role as a "gateway" in global meteorological services.
The "Plan" focuses on the meteorological development needs of the Greater Bay Area and proposes key tasks, such as building an international meteorological talent training center, providing regional numerical weather forecasting services, establishing a Greater Bay Area meteorological service website, offering meteorological services for the Maritime Silk Road, and strengthening marine meteorological services in the Greater Bay Area. The goals are clear, tasks are well defined, and the proposed measures are appropriate. The policy basis for the plan is sound, the construction content is practical, and the expected benefits of the project are positive.
The expert group unanimously agreed that the "Plan" passed the evaluation. (Reported by Yang Qunna and Cai Jing)
